This is our friend Mark Covington. If you've been reading here for awhile you may remember him from this post, or this one, or this one. He's the man behind the Georgia Street Community Collective and Garden. I've already written about how inspirational he is, but no amount of praise can fully capture what a powerful force for good he's been in his beautiful neighborhood. Don't just take my word for it: take President Obama's [the garden was recently featured on the White House blog]. And right now Mark could use your help.

Mark is a finalist for the 2011 Energizer Keep Going® Hall of Fame. It's a $10,000 cash prize plus an additional $5,000 donation to his favorite charity. Mark has been working like crazy the last few years to renovate two abandoned buildings for a community center and this money would be put to incredibly good use. I've received several e-mails from annoying e-marketers who have apparently been hired by two of Mark's competitors asking that I tell my readers to vote for them, so I am taking this opportunity to ask you to simply go over to the Energizer website and VOTE FOR MARK COVINGTON. It doesn't cost you anything, and you can vote for him every day until May 13, 2011.

And if you're in metro Detroit and want something really fun to do this weekend, check out the Third Annual Georgia Street Community Garden Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at noon.
