Over the weekend we visited Bob Medema's 20,000-square-foot antique store (The Emporium) in Kalamazoo and bought our friend a 1920s birdcage for the gift cards at her wedding. His store has been there since 1968. It is only open from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays (and afternoons on weekends). Bob is 73-years old and still moves quick as lightning if he hears someone drop something in the back of his store. And he still takes down the address of every one of his customers and sends them a handwritten note thanking them for the purchase.
