So like just about everyone else, we're really excited about the new Where the Wild Things Are movie. It appears Eggers and Jonze have done a really good job with this one (even if I am a little afraid that the first wild thing is carrying Max to a pre-dug hole out in the Pine Barrens). I've been following Jonze & Co.'s blog related to the movie We Love You So, and if (like us) you've needed more than the trailer to keep you satisfied during this long wait, it's worth checking out.

Here is a little video of Gram watching the excellently-edited trailer with the perfectly spliced Arcade Fire song:

I'm not the only one who's anxious for October.

*update* The We Love You So crew found this post and edited the video to include the original preview with Gram's reaction. Thanks guys!

At some point during all this auto-industry bailout talk, I remembered my favorite all-time silent comedy short---it doesn't star Chaplin, Keaton, Arbuckle or even Roach, but the venerable but nearly-forgotten Snub Pollard as a wacky inventor in 1923 ready to save everyone driving Detroit's newfangled machines from the greedy oil men. His own "car" is extremely fuel efficient: it doesn't use any fuel. Nor does it create any emissions. I sincerely hope that some of the CEOs of the Big Three watch this video over the next few weeks to get some ideas.

Last Friday night my wife had to drive out to the suburbs to attend a private screening of My Cousin Vinny at her elderly boss's house. Despite the presence of Sanders' bumpy cake, we didn't hire a babysitter so that I too could experience once again the film that gave Ralph Macchio a second chance and propelled Marisa Tomei into all of our hearts for a couple of months. I spent the night watching my one of my dad's favorite movies, Silent Running followed by one of mine: Luis Buñuel's Robinson Crusoe. Then I spent a few quiet moments like a high school junior in AP English considering the similarities.
